Philadelphia Union announced a significant trade involving midfielder Jack McGlynn to Houston Dynamo. The transaction, finalized under the new 'cash for player trade' rule, includes a guaranteed $2,100,000 for Philadelphia Union. Additionally, they hold rights to a future sell-on and trade percentage from McGlynn's move. If specific performance metrics are achieved, an extra $1,300,000 may be acquired by the club.

The newly instituted rule allows MLS clubs to use unlimited out-of-pocket funds for trades without relying on general allocation money or other assets. This marks the first such Homegrown cash trade since its introduction in January 2025.

"We want to thank Jack for his dedication and contributions to the team, both on and off the field," said Ernst Tanner, Sporting Director of Philadelphia Union. "Over the past three years, he has been a key part of our midfield, and we are incredibly proud of his growth."

Jack McGlynn joined Philadelphia Union as a Homegrown Player in August 2020. During his four seasons with the team (2021-24), he made 99 appearances and scored seven goals with 13 assists. His career highlights include representing the United States at various youth levels and participating in the 2024 U.S. Olympic Team.

Philadelphia Union believes this transfer benefits both parties involved by providing opportunities for reinvestment into their roster while allowing McGlynn an environment suited to his development.
