The Philadelphia Eagles are entering the 2025 offseason with a strong focus on their running back position. With Saquon Barkley leading the group, the team is in a favorable position. Barkley's performance in 2024 was remarkable, with 2,005 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns during the regular season. His overall season stats included an NFL-record of 2,504 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns. At 28 years old, Barkley has signed a contract extension and remains committed to maintaining his physical condition for continued success.

However, depth in the running back position remains crucial for the Eagles as they prepare for another demanding season. Kenneth Gainwell has served effectively as a backup but is now approaching free agency. The market's response to him will be closely monitored by both parties.

Second-year player Will Shipley showed promise during limited playtime last year, particularly with his standout performance in the NFC Championship Game against Washington where he had four carries for 77 yards and one touchdown. Additionally, Tyrion Davis-Price remains on the roster as a potential contributor due to his size and speed combination. Recently added Lew Nichols expands the current lineup to include more options.

Running Backs Coach Jemal Singleton expressed optimism about Barkley's growth areas: "The thing that I do no matter who the back is go through their entire tape – every carry, every reception, every block... I saw a very elite player that could do a lot of things." He emphasized improvements in pass protection and field vision while commending Barkley's dedication: "He's such a great dude, coachable young man."

Barkley's achievements also include setting an NFL record with seven touchdown runs of over 60 yards during last year's campaign—three occurring during postseason play alone—a feat unmatched by any other player historically across multiple seasons.

As preparations continue towards kickoff time later this year under close scrutiny from fans alike; questions arise regarding factors like how well-rested star players remain following previous exertions or potential developments within emerging talents such as Shipley amid changing dynamics surrounding contractual negotiations involving seasoned veterans like Gainwell seeking new opportunities elsewhere if necessary.
