The Philadelphia Flyers faced a 5-2 defeat against the Ottawa Senators at Wells Fargo Center on Tuesday evening. This loss extended their current homestand record to 0-5-0 over seven games.
The game began with an early goal by Brady Tkachuk, assisted by Claude Giroux and Tim Stutzle, just 24 seconds after the opening faceoff. Shortly after, Nick Seeler of the Flyers was penalized for interference but the team successfully killed off the minor penalty without allowing any shots from Ottawa.
An attempt to energize his team came from Nicolas Deslauriers during a stoppage in play at 6:09, though no penalties resulted. The Flyers then went on a power play following a penalty on Stutzle but failed to capitalize, continuing their power-play struggles during this homestand.
Both teams had limited offensive opportunities in the first period with Ottawa slightly leading in shots on goal at 6-5. The Senators also held an edge in faceoffs won, claiming 12 out of 22.
In the second period, both teams exchanged goals twice. Jamie Drysdale scored for Philadelphia with assists from Travis Konecny and Olle Lycksell, leveling the score at 1-1. However, Tyler Kleven quickly restored Ottawa's lead with a screened shot from the point. Rodrigo Abols equalized again for Philadelphia before Michael Amadio put Ottawa ahead once more with assistance from Adam Gaudette and Jake Sanderson.
Philadelphia had another chance on a power play when Stutzle was penalized again but could not convert it into a goal. Ivan Fedotov made key saves for Philadelphia while Anton Forsberg stopped Travis Konecny's shorthanded attempt.
In the third period, Dylan Cozens increased Ottawa's lead with an unassisted goal followed by Shane Pinto scoring into an empty net late in the game. Overall shots favored Ottawa slightly at 24-22 as they secured victory.
Flyers' goaltender Ivan Fedotov stopped 19 of 23 shots while Anton Forsberg saved 20 out of 22 attempts for Ottawa. Despite going perfect on penalty kills (2-for-2), Philadelphia struggled offensively failing to score on two power plays.
Emil Andrae returned to Philadelphia’s lineup replacing Egor Zamula who was scratched along with Garnet Hathaway due to injury concerns.
Key moments included Claude Giroux’s assist against his former team and Jakob Pelletier contributing an assist since joining from Calgary earlier this year alongside fellow acquisition Dylan Cozens who scored insurance for Ottawa mid-third period.
