In a tightly contested game that stretched over four hours, the University of Pennsylvania baseball team was defeated by Delaware in the 12th inning. The Blue Hens secured a 13-12 victory on a walk-off wild pitch, clinching the series.
The loss drops Penn to a record of 1-8 for the season, while Delaware improves to 7-8.
Penn's performance included seven doubles and a home run, resulting in eight extra-base hits. Jarrett Pokrovsky contributed significantly with three doubles and two RBIs. Qwynn Ahearn also had an impressive game, going 2-for-5 with a home run, three runs scored, and three RBIs. Ryan Taylor added to the effort with a 3-for-5 performance, including a stolen base.
Tommy Delany was charged with the loss after allowing one run on three hits, with the decisive run scoring on his wild pitch. Connor Darling stood out from the bullpen for Penn, pitching 3.1 innings and conceding just one run on five hits while striking out four batters.
The game began with Penn taking an early lead when Connor Chavez doubled and later scored on a groundout. Despite building up leads throughout the match, Delaware responded effectively at each turn.
Key moments included Brett Lesher's home run for Delaware in the second inning and LT Cockrill's solo homer in the third inning. Rory Finn's two-run double further closed the gap for Delaware.
Penn maintained its advantage into later innings through strong performances from players like Ahearn who hit his second homer of the weekend in this series. However, Delaware managed to turn things around with Bouldin hitting their fourth home run of the day in the seventh inning to take a narrow lead.
Despite efforts from both teams leading into extra innings, it was ultimately Delany's wild pitch that allowed Delaware to walk off victorious.
Next up for Penn is a home game against Rutgers at Tommy Lasorda Field at Meiklejohn Stadium scheduled for Tuesday at 3 p.m.
