The Philadelphia Flyers were defeated by the Seattle Kraken with a score of 4-1 at Wells Fargo Center on Saturday. This result marked a season sweep for Seattle over Philadelphia.
In the first period, the Flyers took an early lead with Owen Tippett scoring his 19th goal of the season at 19:28. The puck deflected past Seattle's goaltender Philipp Grubauer after Tippett's rush against Ryker Evans. Assists were credited to Matvei Michkov and Sean Couturier.
Seattle tied the game in the second period at 10:11 when Tye Kartye scored his fourth goal of the season. His shot, screened by John Hayden and Rodrigo Abols, got past Flyers' goalie Samuel Ersson. Vince Dunn provided the assist.
A brief interruption occurred when Flyers center Ryan Poehling was struck on the head by Adam Larsson's stick but he returned to play shortly after. Later in the period, Matty Beniers scored for Seattle at 18:57, assisted by Evans, giving them a 2-1 lead.
Just before the second period ended, Chandler Stephenson scored a shorthanded goal unassisted at 19:38 after intercepting an outlet pass from Sean Couturier.
The third period saw Brandon Montour extend Seattle's lead to 4-1 with a goal following a faceoff win by Beniers. Despite efforts from Flyers coach John Tortorella to adjust line combinations, they could not close the gap.
Flyers' goaltender Ersson stopped 29 out of 33 shots while Grubauer saved 23 out of 24 shots faced. The Flyers struggled on power plays going 0-for-5 and allowing one shorthanded goal while successfully killing all three penalties against them.
After trading key players like Scott Laughton, Andrei Kuzmenko, and Eric Johnson, new additions such as Emil Andrae and Olle Lycksell made their presence felt in Saturday’s lineup.
"Between the pipes," Ersson played his milestone 100th NHL game but faced challenges throughout despite some early saves against notable threats like Chandler Stephenson and Jordan Eberle.
Travis Konecny led attempts with four shots on goal playing alongside new linemates Ryan Poehling and Olle Lycksell. Despite familiarity with Poehling over two seasons, this combination was relatively new for Konecny during this matchup.
