A new season for Philadelphia Union commenced with notable events as they faced Orlando City SC. Among these was the debut of homegrown defender Frankie Westfield, who made his first start for the team. The 19-year-old player signed a short-term agreement before the match to be eligible for selection.

Westfield is now the 15th homegrown player in the club's history to make a start and only the 10th to do so in a season opener. He follows players like Derrick Jones, Anthony Fontana, Auston Trusty, Brendan Aaronson, Mark McKenzie, Matt Real, Nathan Harriel, Jack McGlynn, and Quinn Sullivan.

In his Major League Soccer (MLS) debut, Westfield played 88 minutes and recorded his first career assist on Tai Baribo's goal during the second half at the 64th minute.
