Philadelphia Union's latest recruit, Ian Glavinovich, recently visited the city to sign his contract for the 2025 season. The 23-year-old center back from Argentina expressed enthusiasm about joining the team and shared his thoughts in an interview before heading home for the holidays.
Glavinovich described his initial impression of Philadelphia, saying, "When I first found out about this opportunity I did some digging, and I remembered the movie, Rocky. I really like the style of the city." He also revealed that he learned about the Union's interest a month ago amidst interest from other clubs. "But until this was all confirmed, I was a bit anxious because I really wanted to get this deal done," he added.
The young defender is eager for personal growth through this new challenge and believes he can contribute significantly to his new team. "I believe I can bring a lot to the team, and I want to go step by step," he said.
Before arriving in Philadelphia, Glavinovich noted his surprise at seeing young talent like Cavan Sullivan excel at the club. He appreciates that opportunities are given to young players.
Discussing his playing style and what he brings to the defense, Glavinovich stated: "I consider myself fast, so I can be a good recovery guy...I think I'm also good at playing long balls."
On choosing jersey number two, he explained it is symbolic for his position despite previously wearing 37. Outside of soccer, Glavinovich enjoys spending time with friends and family through activities like fishing.
In closing remarks directed at fans, Glavinovich expressed gratitude: "First off, I would like to thank them for welcoming me...Personally I'll leave everything on the field."
