In early December, six high school teams across Pennsylvania claimed state championships in their respective classes. Three of these victorious teams from the Philadelphia region will be recognized at the Eagles' regular-season finale against the Giants at Lincoln Financial Field. Each team has unique connections to the Eagles.
Bishop McDevitt High School, under Head Coach Jeff Weachter, won its second state title in three years. Despite an initial lead of 21-3, McDevitt faced a comeback from Roman Catholic, eventually tying and winning 34-31 in overtime. "I think it's big for them, just not in football, but for the rest of their lives," Weachter remarked about overcoming adversity. He also highlighted his connection with Eagles Hall of Fame running back LeSean McCoy, a former player under his guidance.
Monsignor Bonner High School celebrated its first state title under Jack Muldoon. A Bonner alumnus himself, Muldoon emphasized perseverance when faced with challenges such as potential school closures. The team excelled through the playoffs and finished with a decisive 40-14 victory over Lampeter-Strasburg. Muldoon appreciated community support and shared how funding from the Eagles and NFL Grassroots Program contributed to their home field.
St. Joseph's Prep continued its dominance by securing its third consecutive state title after defeating Pittsburgh Central Catholic 35-6. Jeremiah Trotter Jr., an alumnus who now plays for the Eagles, expressed pride in his alma mater's success and culture of developing talent: "It feels really good seeing them win and succeed because I still know coaches who are still there coaching." On Sunday, Trotter Jr.'s former teammates will be honored alongside him at Lincoln Financial Field.
Both Trotter Jr. and New York Giants guard Jon Runyan Jr., sons of Eagles Hall of Famers from St. Joseph's Prep, will be present on opposite sides during the game.
