The University of Pennsylvania's baseball team achieved two wins against Harvard, extending their winning streak to six games. The victories marked the beginning of Ivy League play for both teams at Tommy Lasorda Field in Philadelphia.
In the first game, the Quakers secured a 5-4 win with a walk-off hit from Jarrett Pokrovsky. This victory was followed by a 6-3 win in the second game, thanks to a strong performance by freshman pitcher Sebastian Haggard.
Penn has already clinched this series and will aim for a sweep on Sunday.
"Penn begins its Ivy campaign with a series victory for the second straight year," noted the press release. Last season, Penn also began their Ivy League play with a sweep against Brown.
Pokrovsky's walk-off hit was Penn's first since exactly one year ago against Brown. In Game 1, Gavin Collins contributed significantly with multiple hits, including a double and a home run. Noah Millikan started as pitcher and struck out six over seven innings without walking any batters.
In Game 2, Davis Baker led Penn's offense with three hits, including a home run and two RBIs. Connor Chavez added two sacrifice flies and Nick Spaventa scored twice. Haggard earned his second win of the year after pitching seven innings with eight strikeouts.
Josh Katz relieved Haggard in the eighth inning of Game 2 and secured his first save of the season by recording six outs while allowing only one run.
Both games saw notable contributions from various players which led to Penn's success on Saturday. The team looks forward to completing their series against Harvard on Sunday at noon.
