Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, alongside Department of Labor & Industry Secretary Nancy A. Walker, visited Temple Women & Families on March 6th. The visit aimed to highlight investments in the Governor’s 2025-26 budget proposal focused on addressing the state's nursing shortage and enhancing its healthcare workforce.

The governor's proposal includes a $5 million state-level investment to establish the Nurse Shortage Assistance Program. This initiative is designed to provide funding for health systems like Temple that collaborate with nursing schools. The program will cover tuition costs for students who agree to a three-year work placement at sponsoring Pennsylvania hospitals upon graduation.
