Gina Riviello, a registered nurse on the Hepatology Unit at Temple University Hospital (TUH) Main Campus, has been recognized with the DAISY Award. This accolade is given in recognition of her dedication to patient education and advocacy, as well as her ability to connect with patients.
A nomination from a patient's family member highlighted Riviello's outstanding qualities. The nominator stated, "I am writing to nominate Gina Riviello for the DAISY Award, as I believe she truly exemplifies the qualities of an outstanding nurse. Throughout my mom’s treatment at Temple University Hospital, Nurse Riviello has been an invaluable advocate for her health and wellbeing."
The nomination praised Riviello for going "above and beyond" in ensuring optimal care by explaining medical procedures and test results clearly. Her communication skills were noted as easing a challenging time for the family.
The family member also commended Riviello's proactive approach: "One of the most remarkable aspects of Gina’s care was her proactive approach in arranging phone calls for lab work and doctor’s appointments." This initiative alleviated stress for the family during a difficult period.
Riviello's genuine care was another point of praise: "Nurse Riviello is not only skilled and knowledgeable but also genuinely cares about her patients." Her personal touch was said to make patients feel heard and valued.
The DAISY Award honors nurses who demonstrate clinical skills combined with caring and compassion. It was established in memory of J. Patrick Barnes by his family after they experienced exceptional nursing care during his illness.
