Patrick Johnson has rejoined the Philadelphia Eagles, signing a one-year contract after spending 2024 with the New York Giants. Johnson expressed his enthusiasm about returning to Philadelphia, stating, "Just knowing that this would probably be my best opportunity to really make a huge impact in my own career and also for the team."
Drafted in the seventh round of the 2021 draft, Johnson played 49 regular-season games and five playoff games with the Eagles, recording 20 tackles and contributing significantly on special teams. In 2024, he appeared in 12 games for the Giants.
Reflecting on his time away from Philadelphia, Johnson noted personal growth and a desire to improve as a player. He stated, "I would say, just maturing, realizing and really looking in depth of where I need to improve at as a player."
Johnson is eager to play under Defensive Coordinator Vic Fangio again. During Training Camp and preseason in 2024, he forced a fumble against Baltimore that led to a game-winning field goal by Jake Elliott. "I'm just looking forward to getting after the quarterback again," Johnson said.
He is also excited about playing alongside young players like Nolan Smith and Jalyx Hunt. "Hopefully I can bring that maturity and being the veteran back in the room," he commented.
Johnson aims to contribute to defending the Eagles' World Championship title. He remarked on his previous experience with the team: "It's always a big thing, coming off of a Super Bowl, and wanting to be part of a team like that."
