Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro and Department of Labor & Industry Secretary Nancy A. Walker visited Temple Women & Families on March 6th. The visit aimed to highlight investments in the Governor’s 2025-26 budget proposal designed to address Pennsylvania’s nursing shortage and enhance the state’s healthcare workforce.

The governor's proposal includes a new state-level investment of $5 million to establish the Nurse Shortage Assistance Program. This program will fund health systems, such as Temple, that collaborate with nursing schools to cover tuition costs for students. In return, these students must commit to a three-year work placement at sponsoring hospitals in Pennsylvania after they graduate.
