The Philadelphia Phillies are gearing up for the MLB Spring Breakout event, a four-day showcase of top Minor League Baseball prospects. This year's event will take place from March 13-16 at Grapefruit and Cactus League stadiums during Spring Training. The Phillies' prospects will face off against the Pittsburgh Pirates' prospects on March 14 at BayCare Ballpark.
The roster features several promising players. Among them are shortstop Aidan Miller, ranked No. 2 in the Phillies' system and No. 27 in baseball, and center fielder Justin Crawford, ranked No. 3 in the system and No. 63 in baseball. President of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski noted that while neither player is expected to debut in the big leagues this year, they could advance quickly through the system.
Catcher Eduardo Tait, ranked No. 4 in the system and No. 92 in baseball, is another player to watch due to his hitting ability and defensive improvements.
On the pitching side, right-handers Moisés Chace and Jean Cabrera have been added to the Phillies’ 40-man roster after being protected from the Rule 5 Draft. Chace joined the team last summer through a trade with Baltimore but has been behind schedule this spring. Cabrera was named Minor League Pitcher of the Year in 2021 as a teenager.
Notably absent from play is Andrew Painter, ranked No. 1 in the system and No. 8 in baseball, who is recovering from Tommy John surgery performed in 2023. He is currently throwing bullpens but will not participate until extended spring training begins.
Both Painter and Mick Abel will be available for autograph sessions before their game.
