The University of Pennsylvania's baseball team faced a tough defeat against No. 21 Troy, losing 6-1 at Riddle-Pace Field. This result marked Penn's sixth consecutive loss, dropping their season record to 0-6, while Troy improved to an impressive 11-1 with their eighth straight win.
Penn initially took the lead when Gavin Degnan drove in a run in the second inning. However, the Quakers were unable to maintain this advantage. Left-handed starter Will Tobin had a solid performance, allowing only one run on two hits over four innings and striking out five batters.
Despite Tobin's efforts, Troy tied the game in the third inning and later took control in the fifth with an unearned run due to a fielding error. The Trojans extended their lead further with a two-run homer in the seventh inning and added two more runs in the eighth.
John Cerwinski was charged with the loss for Penn after giving up an unearned winning run. He walked three and struck out two during his time on the mound.
Looking ahead, Penn will host Delaware for their home opener at Tommy Lasorda Field at Meiklejohn Stadium. The game is scheduled for Friday at 3 p.m., with live streaming available on ESPN+.
