Philadelphia Union has announced the acquisition of midfielder Indiana Vassilev from St. Louis CITY SC. The contract with Vassilev is guaranteed through 2025, with an option for 2026. In return, St. Louis CITY SC will receive $400,000 in 2025 General Allocation Money (GAM), $600,000 in 2026 GAM, and up to an additional $250,000 if certain performance-based metrics are achieved. Additionally, they will gain a future sell-on and trade percentage.
Ernst Tanner, Philadelphia Union Sporting Director, commented on the acquisition: “Indiana is an extremely versatile and hardworking player who embodies the qualities we are looking for to enhance our roster.” Tanner highlighted Vassilev's experience across various leagues and his technical abilities as reasons for his addition to the team.
During his time at St. Louis CITY SC over the past two seasons (2023-24), Vassilev scored five goals and made nine assists in 63 regular season matches (48 starts). He ranked tied for second in assists during the 2024 regular season and was fourth in appearances.
Before joining St. Louis CITY SC, Vassilev played two seasons with Inter Miami CF (2021-22), scoring five goals and making two assists in 45 matches. His professional career began with Aston Villa of the English Premier League where he made six top-level appearances between 2019-20.
Vassilev has represented various U.S Youth National Teams since 2016 and earned his first call-up to the USMNT in January 2025.
