Philadelphia Union has announced the acquisition of midfielder Indiana Vassilev from St. Louis CITY SC. The contract for the 24-year-old USMNT player is guaranteed until 2025, with an option for 2026. In exchange, St. Louis CITY SC will receive $400,000 in General Allocation Money (GAM) for 2025, $600,000 in GAM for 2026, and up to an additional $250,000 if certain performance metrics are met. Additionally, CITY SC will receive a percentage of any future sale or trade.

"Indiana is a player extremely versatile and hardworking who embodies the qualities we are looking for to improve our roster," said Philadelphia Union's Sporting Director Ernst Tanner. "With only 24 years old, he brings experience from the Premier League, Major League Soccer, U.S. Youth National Teams and most recently his first call-up with the USMNT. His technical skills, dedication and growth potential make him a valuable addition to our team."

Vassilev spent the previous two seasons with St. Louis CITY (2023-24), scoring five goals and providing nine assists in 63 regular-season matches (48 as a starter). He was tied for second on the club during the regular season in assists (4), fourth in appearances (29), shots (39), and sixth in minutes played (1,841). During the 2023 regular season, Vassilev led St. Louis in appearances (34), tied for second in assists (5), and tied for third in games started (25). He was originally selected by St. Louis during the MLS Expansion Draft of 2022 and signed a two-year contract in January 2023.

Before joining St. Louis, Vassilev spent two seasons with Inter Miami CF (2021-22) where he recorded five goals and two assists over 45 regular-season matches. He has accumulated ten goals, eleven assists, 104 shots and played 5,816 minutes across four MLS seasons (108 matches total).

Vassilev began his career at Aston Villa of the English Premier League where he made six appearances with their first team during the 2019-20 season. He also played at U18 and U23 levels making a total of 54 appearances across all competitions between 2017-21 before being loaned out to Burton Albion (League One) and Cheltenham Town (League Two) during the 2020-21 season appearing in twenty-four matches combined.
