Philadelphia Union introduced Bruno Damiani at a press conference held at Subaru Park on Tuesday. This event followed the announcement of his transfer, marking a significant moment for the club. Damiani, alongside Sporting Director Ernst Tanner and Head Coach Bradley Carnell, spoke to the media about his journey to Philadelphia and what lies ahead.

Damiani's move from Montevideo, Uruguay, where he played for Nacional and Boston River on loan, continues a trend of Uruguayan players finding success in Major League Soccer. Before making his decision to join the Philadelphia Union, Damiani sought advice from fellow countrymen who have played in MLS, including Mauricio Pereyra, Francisco Ginella, and Felipe Carballo. “I think [MLS] is a very good place to grow up, to continue my career. It's a big step, and I'm very happy to be here,” said Damiani.

The addition of Damiani adds depth to Philadelphia Union’s roster of strikers that includes Mikael Uhre and Tai Baribo. Head Coach Bradley Carnell views this as an opportunity for healthy competition among the forwards. “Stylistically and part of a competitive training environment... We're trying to elevate each other on the training ground first,” Carnell stated.

Carnell has been experimenting with various formations during friendly matches in Spain and Florida. Despite being accustomed to playing as a solo striker, Damiani is open to adapting his role if needed. “I told them that I used to play always as a solo striker... so I will be good with any one of those models,” he mentioned.

As the 2025 MLS season approaches its start on February 22nd against Orlando City SC, it remains uncertain whether Damiani will participate in the opener. Both Carnell and Tanner are optimistic about his integration into the team. Carnell praised Damiani's English skills: “I wish I could have spoken that good at German when I moved to Germany back in the day.” Tanner added that while it may take time for full integration, they are excited about what Damiani brings: "He's aggressive against the ball... All of these things... speak to exactly how he can complement the team."
