The University of Pennsylvania baseball team secured a 16-11 win over Lafayette in the consolation semifinal of the Liberty Bell Classic. The game took place at Tommy Lasorda Field at Meiklejohn Stadium, marking Penn's 10th win of the 2025 season and improving their record to 10-12 overall. Lafayette's record stands at 6-23.
The Quakers' victory extended their win streak against Lafayette to five games, dated back to last season. They now hold a 78-52-1 all-time record against Lafayette, with a 48-25 record at home. This game saw Penn score the second-highest runs of their season, following a 19-run game against Lehigh.
Penn's lineup delivered 18 hits, with notable performances from Jarrett Pokrovsky and Ernie Echevarria, each recording three hits. Nick O'Brien scored his first career home run, driving in four runs, while Echevarria added two RBIs and scored thrice. Five stolen bases were marked for the Quakers, with two from Gavin Degnan.
Marshall Mott earned his first win after pitching 1.1 shutout innings. Connor Darling also demonstrated strong performance with three strikeouts over two innings. Thomas Shurtleff lowered his ERA to 0.77 after striking out three batters in the ninth.
Lafayette initially led with a run driven by Michael Zarrillo, but Penn responded with a game-tying home run by Baker and added three more runs. Lafayette regained the lead with five runs during the third inning. However, Penn dominated the fourth inning, scoring eight runs, including O'Brien's three-run homer.
Spaventa contributed to extending the lead with a crucial double and defensive play. Lafayette managed to score four more in the seventh, narrowing the gap to 14-11. Degnan's sacrifice fly and a run scored by Andrew Ruggeri increased Penn's lead. Shurtleff closed the game striking out the side.
The Quakers will resume Ivy League play against Princeton this weekend at Tommy Lasorda Field, with the series streamed live on ESPN+.
