Philadelphia Union has announced the signing of forward Edward (Eddy) Davis III on a three-year contract. The deal is guaranteed until 2027, with options for 2028 and 2029. Davis, aged 18, led Union II in the 2024 season with a record of 13 goals and became the first player in team history to be named MLS NEXT Pro Emerging Star of the Month three times in one season. He is the third homegrown player to sign with Union this year and the 28th in club history.
"Eddy took a significant step in his growth and development last year, proving himself as a relentless forward," said Philadelphia Union Sporting Director Ernst Tanner. "His ability to read the game and create scoring opportunities makes him a valuable asset. He has the mentality and passion we look for in young players and is an excellent example of the great talent we continue to foster within our system."
Davis played in 27 regular-season matches for Union II last season, scoring 13 goals and recording four assists over 1,773 minutes. His goal tally led the club, ranking fourth in the league, setting a single-season record for most goals by a Union II player. He surpassed Faris Moumbagna's previous record of 11 goals during the 2019 season. Davis was tied for second on the team in games played, tied for third in assists, and sixth in minutes played. He was named MLS NEXT Pro Emerging Star of the Month in April, May, and September—becoming both the first player to win this honor three times within one season and only the second to earn it consecutively across months.
He scored his first career playoff goal during Union II's inaugural MLS NEXT Pro Cup against North Texas SC on November 9th. The Union originally acquired Davis through a free transfer back in August of 2022.
