Phillies pitchers and catchers are set to begin workouts on Wednesday at Carpenter Complex in Clearwater, Florida. The team enters the spring with a strong rotation, bolstered by the offseason acquisition of left-hander Jesús Luzardo. Right-hander Jordan Romano is expected to regain his All-Star form, compensating for the bullpen losses of right-handers Carlos Estévez and Jeff Hoffman.

The Phillies' 26-man roster is largely established, though some positions remain contested as spring training unfolds. "There are always hiccups along the way," an insider noted.

At catcher, J.T. Realmuto is anticipated to be the starter as he approaches free agency after this season. Rafael Marchán is favored over Garrett Stubbs for the backup role due to being out of Minor League options. However, Marchán's injury history leaves room for uncertainty.

Bryce Harper will continue as first baseman following a successful 2024 season where he finished sixth in NL MVP voting. Bryson Stott aims to bounce back from last year's elbow issues at second base, while Trea Turner seeks consistency at shortstop after fluctuating performances last year.

Alec Bohm remains at third base despite trade speculations earlier in the offseason. The outfield will likely feature Nick Castellanos, Max Kepler, and Brandon Marsh, with Johan Rojas potentially earning playing time if his hitting improves.

Kyle Schwarber's position as designated hitter is secure; however, his spot in the lineup remains undecided. The bench includes Edmundo Sosa and Weston Wilson among others vying for utility roles.

The starting rotation comprises Luzardo, Aaron Nola, Cristopher Sánchez, Ranger Suárez, and Zack Wheeler. Andrew Painter will join camp but isn't expected to pitch until summer.

In relief pitching, José Alvarado leads a group including Tanner Banks and Orion Kerkering among others. Taijuan Walker currently holds a spot but must perform well this spring to maintain it.
