Philadelphia Union has announced a significant transaction involving midfielder Jack McGlynn, who will be transferred to Houston Dynamo. The deal includes $2,100,000 guaranteed and a substantial percentage of future sales and trades. An additional $1,300,000 may be acquired if certain performance metrics are met.

This marks the first cash-for-player trade since the introduction of the new rule in January 2025. This rule allows MLS clubs to use unlimited funds for player exchanges without relying on general allocation money or other assets. Clubs can convert revenue from these transactions into general allocation money.

Ernst Tanner, Sporting Director of Philadelphia Union, expressed gratitude towards McGlynn: "We want to thank Jack for his dedication and contributions to the team, both on and off the field." Tanner highlighted McGlynn's importance over the past three years and emphasized that this move benefits both the club and McGlynn by allowing reinvestment in their roster while providing McGlynn with an environment suitable for his playing style and development.

McGlynn joined Philadelphia Union as a homegrown player on August 17, 2020. He played four seasons with the club from 2021 to 2024, scoring seven goals and providing 13 assists in 99 appearances. In 2024, he set personal records in various categories including games played and goals scored. Before joining the main team, he spent time with Union II in 2020 and played for Philadelphia Union Academy's U-17 team.

Internationally, McGlynn has represented the United States at U16 (2018), U20 (2021), and U23 (2023) levels. He made three appearances with the US Olympic Team in 2024 and scored his first goal for USMNT against Venezuela on January 18, 2025.

"Transaction: Philadelphia Union acquires $2,100,000 guaranteed, a percentage of future sales and trades from Houston Dynamo in exchange for midfielder Jack McGlynn."
