The Philadelphia Eagles' success in the NFL Draft has been a key factor in their recent achievements, according to Executive Vice President/General Manager Howie Roseman. "It is the foundation of your roster," Roseman stated, emphasizing the significance of the draft in building a competitive team.
The transformation began in 2020 with the selection of quarterback Jalen Hurts. Subsequent drafts have further strengthened the team, with notable picks including wide receiver DeVonta Smith and guard Landon Dickerson in 2021. Defensive tackle Milton Williams was also added that year.
In 2022, the Eagles selected defensive tackle Jordan Davis and engineered a trade for wide receiver A.J. Brown, enhancing their offensive capabilities. Roseman explained, "It was a priority to get the right players... A.J. Brown was someone we studied coming out."
The Eagles continued to make strategic draft decisions in 2023 by selecting Georgia defensive tackle Jalen Carter and edge player Nolan Smith Jr., both contributing significantly to the team's defense.
The 2024 Draft Class brought immediate contributions from cornerback Quinyon Mitchell and nickel cornerback Cooper DeJean. Other promising additions include third-round pick Jalyx Hunt and wide receiver Johnny Wilson.
Roseman's successful draft strategy has played a vital role in assembling and developing talent for the Eagles. Head Coach Nick Sirianni praised this approach: "Credit to Howie for bringing these guys in here... that's the kind of program you want to have."
