Lane Johnson, Jason Kelce, and Jordan Mailata, known for their roles as offensive linemen and members of the "Philly Specials" musical group, have made significant contributions to Philadelphia through their Christmas album proceeds. Over the past two years, they have donated over $4 million to children's charities in the area.
This year, their efforts culminated in Operation Snowball, an initiative aimed at gifting every student in the School District of Philadelphia a present for Christmas. The project was realized with the help of various local officials and celebrities who joined them in visiting schools to distribute gifts.
"Through our Christmas album, through our funds that we're raising, we decided this year...we wanted to try and gift every kid in the public school system a gift for Christmas," said Mailata.
The team visited three schools: Kirkbride School, Benjamin Franklin High School, and Alliance for Progress Charter School. They were accompanied by Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, representatives from Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker's office, Superintendent Dr. Tony B. Watlington Sr., comedian Pete Davidson, among others.
Kelce remarked on the community spirit during their visit: "One thing that becomes apparent right away is how just unbelievable this community is...the scale of this is truly remarkable."
The day included a surprise performance by Mailata singing "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer." Johnson reflected on the initiative's growth: "This all started as a fun idea...But it all started with love for music and the joy of a friendship."
Operation Snowball raised enough funds to provide gifts across numerous public schools in Philadelphia. The players expressed gratitude for being able to give back to students and relive school memories.
Connor Barwin praised the city's collective effort: "I don't think this ever happens in another city...to know that took place at 338 other buildings over the last few days is truly incredible."
