Wide receiver Jahan Dotson, drafted 16th overall in the 2022 NFL Draft, will face his former team, the Washington Commanders, for the first time since being traded to the Philadelphia Eagles. The trade occurred just before the start of the current season.
Dotson's transition to Philadelphia involved adapting to a new city and role within a team featuring top receivers A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith, as well as running back Saquon Barkley and tight end Dallas Goedert. Despite limited opportunities, Dotson remains confident in his abilities. "People tend to forget that I was a first-round pick. I can make plays," he stated.
During his tenure with Washington, Dotson caught 84 passes for 1,041 yards and scored 11 touchdowns over two seasons. As he prepares for Thursday's game against his former team, Dotson is treating it like any other game on the schedule. "I'm just trying to treat it like a normal week," he said.
Reflecting on his trade experience, Dotson noted its quick nature and emphasized moving forward with his new team. "I had about a three-hour car ride to get over it and I was able to do that and move on," he explained.
Facing an old team twice annually within the division adds complexity to such trades. However, Dotson maintains focus on helping his current team secure victories. "It's going to happen regardless twice a year... my job is to come in and be ready and help my team get a win," he remarked.
As he anticipates Thursday Night Football against Washington, Dotson reflected positively on his past experiences while expressing contentment with his current situation in Philadelphia. "It was good, it was a learning experience... but I'm happy to be here," he concluded.
