Philadelphia Union edges past St. Louis CITY SC with early goal

Philadelphia Union secured a narrow 1-0 victory over St. Louis CITY SC at Subaru Park, marking their return to the top of the Eastern Conference standings. The win was sealed by defender Ian Glavinovich, who scored in the eighth minute with a header from a corner kick. This result brings the Union's total to 12 points from five matches, their second-best start to a season.

Goalkeeper Andrew Rick achieved his first clean sheet of the season, contributing to Philadelphia becoming the first team to score against and defeat St. Louis CITY SC in the 2025 MLS campaign.

The match saw several disciplinary actions, including cautions for players from both teams and an ejection for Eduard Löwen of St. Louis CITY SC after receiving a second caution in the 66th minute.

Philadelphia Union will next face Inter Miami CF at Chase Stadium on March 29.

In terms of individual performances, Kai Wagner provided the assist for Glavinovich's goal, tying Sebastien Le Toux for most game-winning assists in Union history with 17. Wagner also surpassed Alejandro Bedoya in total goals/assists contributions for the club.

Several players made their first starts or appearances this season, including Ian Glavinovich, Indiana Vassilev, Bruno Damiani, Nathan Harriel, Andrew Rick, Olivier Mbaizo, and Jeremy Rafanello.
