Bob "the Hound" Kelly will be honored on March 29 for his extensive contributions to the Philadelphia Flyers organization. Kelly, who is retiring at the end of this season, has been with the Flyers for half a century. Known for his humor and appreciation for fans, Kelly is also recognized for his modesty and work ethic.

Flyers Hall of Fame defenseman Joe Watson, a longtime friend of Kelly's, said, "Every player should have teammates like him and every person should have a friend like him." Watson added that despite their teasing relationship, Kelly would always be there when needed.

Kelly joined the NHL directly from junior hockey without playing in the minor leagues. His dedication and energy earned him a spot on Bobby Clarke's line during his rookie season with the Flyers. Legendary coach Fred Shero once remarked, "If Bob Kelly scores 20 goals, it means I'm not using him right," highlighting Kelly's role as an effective forechecker rather than a high scorer.

Former opponent Brad Marsh recalled how relentless Kelly was on the ice: "He'd dump the puck into your corner...and he'd barrel into you...again and again."

Kelly scored the Stanley Cup-winning goal in Game 6 of the 1975 Final against Buffalo Sabres. He played in four Cup Finals during his career with the Flyers, winning twice. Later, he played with the Washington Capitals but did not enjoy it due to their lack of unity compared to the Flyers.

After leaving professional play, Kelly continued contributing to the Flyers community department and Alumni leadership group. He was instrumental in organizing events such as school visits and charity programs like "Every Child Deserves a Bike." In 2014, he helped start the Flyers Alumni Fantasy Camp.

During annual giving programs like "12 Days of Christmas," Kelly often volunteers or assists with presentations. The Samuel Busansky Upper Elementary School toy drive holds special meaning for him because his wife Stacey was a teacher there.
