In a recent press conference, A.J. Dillon expressed his enthusiasm for joining the Philadelphia Eagles, highlighting the opportunity to run behind their renowned offensive line. Dillon signed a one-year contract with the team after spending five seasons with the Green Bay Packers.
"I'm excited for the opportunity the Eagles have given me and I'm excited to be here," Dillon stated during a virtual meeting with reporters at the NovaCare Complex. "I know Philadelphia fans are awesome, so I'm just excited to get the full experience and help this team win however I can."
During his tenure with the Packers, Dillon accumulated 2,428 yards and 16 touchdowns from 597 touches. As a former second-round pick in 2020, he ranked second on the Packers in yards from scrimmage between 2021-23.
Dillon will now pair up with Saquon Barkley, last year's NFL Offensive Player of the Year, forming a formidable running back duo for Philadelphia.
"You can see, he breaks off a long run and everybody's fired up," Dillon remarked about Barkley. He praised Barkley's leadership and highlighted his own eagerness to contribute: "I'm just excited to go out there every time and make the most of every opportunity."
Standing at six feet tall and weighing 247 pounds, Dillon brings notable athleticism to an already talented running back group that includes Tyrion Davis-Price, Lew Nichols, and Will Shipley.
Despite having played exclusively for Green Bay until now, Dillon is confident about fitting into Philadelphia's system. "I think I can fit in any scheme," he said. He praised the versatility of their offense which allows various positions to impact games significantly.
Before missing last season due to a neck injury, Dillon was consistent on-field performance-wise. He was among only two running backs (alongside Najee Harris) who rushed over 750 yards while playing all games in both 2021 and 2022.
Looking forward towards revitalizing his career path after recovery from injury-related setbacks by capitalizing upon opportunities provided by Philly’s strong lineup – particularly its top-tier offensive linemen unit – seems promising according him: “When I look at what this team has done not only last year but in years past leading up Super Bowl run…this is somewhere I wanted be part.”
"Just being in here 24 hours; culture great…I’m excited get started."
