Recently acquired quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson spoke to the media virtually for the first time as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles. The quarterback was traded from the Cleveland Browns, along with a fifth-round pick, in exchange for Kenny Pickett. Before addressing reporters, Thompson-Robinson visited the Eagles' practice facility at the NovaCare Complex.
Thompson-Robinson is not unfamiliar with Philadelphia; he had a top-30 visit with the team before being drafted by the Browns in 2023. "To be back here definitely feels good for sure," he said. "This was one of my favorite teams coming out in the draft process."
In his tenure with Cleveland, Thompson-Robinson started five games over two seasons, completing 121-of-230 passes for 880 yards and one touchdown while also rushing for 187 yards on 35 carries.
The new Eagle has connections within his new team's quarterback room, which includes Super Bowl LIX MVP Jalen Hurts and third-year player Tanner McKee. "I've crossed paths with Jalen a few times," he mentioned, adding that they share a connection through chess mentor Seth Makowsky. He also noted his history with McKee from their high school days and playing against each other in college.
Thompson-Robinson expressed enthusiasm about integrating into his new environment and learning from Hurts. "I think everybody just raves about how professional he is both on and off the field," he stated regarding Hurts.
As an avid chess player, Thompson-Robinson finds parallels between chess and football, emphasizing decision-making skills that are crucial to both activities. He aims to bring this mindset into his NFL career as he prepares for the upcoming season.
"Just diving in with these new teammates, diving in with this new playbook," he concluded. "Really being a sponge to Jalen (Hurts) as well as coach in the quarterback room."
