Musselman's has announced its Affiliate Player of the Month for March, highlighting young talent Marcus "MJ" Nartey from Roxborough United. At just seven years old, MJ plays for the U8 Rockets team as a striker and midfielder, wearing shirt number 16.
MJ's nomination comes as part of RUSC's club-affiliated training through the Union Youth Program. He was identified by the Player Pathway Program staff as an excellent candidate for advanced training due to his dedication and consistent improvement. This recognition earned him a spot on the U8 PPP team.
When asked about his interests, MJ shared that his favorite professional club is Liverpool FC, with Mo Salah being his favorite player worldwide. Within the Union team, he admires Alejandro Bedoya. His favorite number is 16, and he supports Swoop from the Eagles as his favorite Philly mascot.
Recalling a memorable soccer experience, MJ mentioned scoring a hat trick during a Presidents’ Day tournament with his team. Beyond soccer, he expressed pride in overcoming stage fright by participating in his school musical as "Michael Banks" in Mary Poppins.
Looking ahead, MJ aspires to become a professional soccer player. He fondly remembers Ms. D’Orazio, his first-grade teacher who shares his passion for Philly sports, making her class enjoyable and engaging.
