With the 2024-25 World Junior Championships concluded and January advancing, Flyers prospects are deep into their seasons. Here are three standout players from the past week.
The first star is Denver Barkey, a left winger for the London Knights in the OHL. The Flyers' 2023 third-round pick faced challenges early in the season due to illness and missing Team Canada's WJC squad. However, Barkey has shown improvement with a seven-game point streak, accumulating eight goals and 21 assists. Notably, he scored his first shorthanded goal of the season against Guelph Storm's goalie Colin Ellsworth. Overall, Barkey has played 34 games this season with 55 points.
Alex Bump from Western Michigan in the NCAA is recognized as the second star. During games on January 17-18 against North Dakota, Bump contributed significantly to his team's victories by scoring two goals each day and assisting once. His performance includes nine goals and 20 points over 20 games this season.
The third star is Heikki Ruohonen of Dubuque Fighting Saints in the USHL. After participating in Team Finland at the World Junior Championship, Ruohonen returned to Dubuque and continued to excel. In recent matches against Youngstown Phantoms, he secured four points across two games and maintained a four-game point streak. Ruohonen has accumulated 17 points in 22 games this season.
