After more than ten hours of travel, Philadelphia Union arrived in Marbella, Spain, leaving behind the cold East Coast temperatures for milder weather. The travel group included 29 players, with notable figures such as returning captain Alejandro Bedoya and new Argentinian center back Ian Glavinovich. Promising young talents like Neil Pierre, Sal Olivas, and CJ Olney also joined the team.
Midfielder Jack McGlynn was absent from the group as he was called up to the United States Men's National Team's January camp in Florida. He is expected to rejoin Philadelphia later during their stay in Spain.
Upon arrival in Marbella, the team quickly engaged in activities, heading to the beach for a session to shake off their travel fatigue. The official training under newly-appointed Head Coach Bradley Carnell is scheduled at Marbella Football Center. Carnell marked the beginning of their 2025 campaign with an introductory speech.
Philadelphia Union has embarked on this two-week training stint abroad before their preseason officially starts in February. This trip marks a new era for the club with a new head coach and several roster changes since last year.
During their stay at Marbella Football Complex, they will compete against Slavia Praha from Czech Republic's top division and Denmark's Aarhus Gymnastikforening from SuperLiga.
The club plans to provide daily updates about their trip on PhiladelphiaUnion.com and through social media channels.
"PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- Bags are packed, boarding passes are in hand, and the Boys in Blue are off to Marbella," reads part of the announcement about their journey to Spain.
