Five prospects from the Philadelphia Flyers have been selected to participate in the 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship, which will be held in Ottawa, Ontario, from December 26 to January 5. These young players are set to represent their national teams on an international stage.
The three Flyers representing Team Canada include Carson Bjarnason, Oliver Bonk, and Jett Luchanko. Heikki Ruohonen has been chosen for Team Finland, while Jack Berglund will play for Team Sweden.
Jett Luchanko, a forward and the Flyers' first-round pick in 2024, is one of the 14 forwards named to Team Canada. At just 18 years old, he became the youngest player in Flyers history to play in a regular-season NHL game. Although he appeared in four games for the Flyers earlier this season, he has spent most of his time with the Guelph Storm of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), where he has recorded seven goals and 13 assists over 16 games.
Oliver Bonk will join him on Team Canada as a defenseman. A first-round pick in 2023 by the Flyers, Bonk is returning to represent his country for a second year at this tournament. Last year he contributed three assists during the event and remains an important figure on Canada's defensive line. During preseason action with the Flyers, Bonk impressed by securing two assists over four games before being reassigned to OHL's London Knights.
Carson Bjarnason completes Team Canada's lineup from among Flyer prospects as a goaltender. Having previously represented Canada at the 2023 U-18 IIHF World Championship where he earned a bronze medal after starting six games (4-2-0 record), Bjarnason continues his international experience. Drafted in the second round (51st overall) by Philadelphia in 2023; currently leading WHL with .913 save percentage while posting an impressive performance playing for Brandon Wheat Kings (8-6-2 record).
Heikki Ruohonen has been named one of fifteen forwards on Finland’s roster; drafted fourth round (#107 overall) back then - currently experiencing strong season within USHL Dubuque Fighting Saints: five goals alongside seventeen points spread across nineteen matches thus far! This marks another national team appearance following prior participation such as U18 World Championships last year contributing notably: three goals plus two assists spanning five contests altogether!
