The Flyers capitalized for the first time just under seven minutes into the third period in a game against the Blue Jackets. The play highlighted issues that east-west motion on the ice can create for defending teams. "If you watch this clip and look at every player that doesn’t have the puck, you’ll see they all play a role in how this develops," an observer noted. Tippett made a move towards the net with support from his teammates, who helped open up space.

Cam York and Travis Konecny initiated an ordinary cycle, switching places to open up the ice for offense. Owen Tippett moved out of the zone before starting his charge that led to a goal. As Konecny moved high towards Tippett, York and Travis Sanheim crossed in front of the goal, drawing two Columbus players with them. Frost positioned himself in front, distracting another Blue Jacket. When Tippett cut across, Frost moved aside, leaving him open as Tippett passed back across.

Noah Cates scored a goal after significant effort leading up to it. Initially going to the net, he was knocked down by Zach Werenski but quickly got back up. He signaled Cam York to shoot for a deflection by pointing his stick and wiggling it—an action practiced regularly by players.

Although Cates didn't get the deflection due to Werenski's defense, he anticipated possible outcomes and positioned himself for a rebound goal after turning toward the front of the goal.

Cates also provided an assist on Tippett’s overtime winner with a skillful feed. "We’ve seen this before and NHL players probably consider this easy," said one commentator about Cates' pass, acknowledging its difficulty despite appearances.
