The University of Pennsylvania's baseball team is gearing up for the 2025 season with new leadership in place. The W. Joseph Blood Head Coach John Yurkow announced on Friday that seniors Connor Chavez, Nate Polo, and Will Tobin, along with junior Jarrett Pokrovsky, will serve as captains for the two-time defending Ivy League Tournament champions.
Coach Yurkow expressed his confidence in the newly appointed captains: "I'm thrilled that Connor, Nate, Will, and Jarrett will be our captains for the 2025 season. These guys have already shown incredible leadership, not just with their skills on the field, but with their positive attitudes and the respect they have for everyone around them."
Chavez joined Penn from Northeast Texas Community College and made a significant impact last year by starting all 46 games at second base. He had a batting average of .281 with three home runs and 16 RBIs. Notably, he led the team in walks and was recognized in the Ivy League's All-Tournament team after impressive performances against Cornell.
Nate Polo has grown into a leader over his tenure at Penn. In 2024, he appeared in 15 games and started nine times. He played a crucial role during the NCAA Regional matches and has an on-base percentage of .359 across his career.
Will Tobin emerged as one of Penn's reliable relievers last season. He appeared in a team-high 22 games out of the bullpen and contributed significantly to securing back-to-back Ivy League Tournament championships.
Jarrett Pokrovsky demonstrated his hitting prowess despite an injury-shortened 2024 season where he hit .273 with four homers in 36 starts. His freshman year achievements included being named the inaugural Ivy League Tournament's Most Outstanding Player.
Penn is set to begin its season on February 21 against Florida State before hosting Delaware for their home opener on March 7 at Tommy Lasorda Field at Meiklejohn Stadium.
