The Philadelphia Flyers concluded their five-game homestand with a 5-4 shootout loss to the Vegas Golden Knights at Wells Fargo Center. The game was part of Hockey Fights Cancer Night, and the Flyers ended this stretch with a 2-2-1 record.
In the first period, the Flyers took control early. Owen Tippett's play led to Morgan Frost scoring his second goal of the season, assisted by Rasmus Ristolainen and Tippett. Sean Couturier extended the lead to 2-0 with his fifth goal after receiving a pass from Travis Konecny.
The second period saw more open play, favoring Vegas as they outshot Philadelphia 19-7. Despite this, rookie Emil Andrae scored his first NHL goal for a 3-0 lead. Jack Eichel then scored for Vegas, followed by Ivan Barbashev reducing the gap further. Matvei Michkov restored a two-goal lead for Philadelphia before Pavel Dorofeyev scored on a power play for Vegas.
In the third period, Tanner Pearson tied the game at 4-4 for Vegas. The Flyers had opportunities but could not capitalize in overtime or during their power play chances.
The shootout began with Travis Konecny losing control of his attempt while Pavel Dorofeyev was stopped by Ivan Fedotov. Matvei Michkov hit the post on his try, and Eichel scored to give Vegas an advantage. Owen Tippett's final attempt was saved by Ilya Samsonov, securing victory for Vegas.
Fedotov made 26 saves in regulation and overtime and stopped one of two shootout attempts. Samsonov saved 31 shots during regular play and was perfect in the shootout with some help from Michkov's post-hit.
Philadelphia struggled on special teams, going scoreless on three power plays while allowing one goal on their only penalty kill opportunity.
