In a recent announcement, Flyers forward Garnet Hathaway and his wife Lindsay have collaborated with Flyers Charities to launch the Hits for Hath's Heroes fundraising campaign. This initiative aims to support local first responders by raising funds through Hathaway's existing project, Hath's Heroes.
Garnet Hathaway, who led the Flyers with 326 hits in the 2023-24 season and ranked second overall among league hitters, along with Lindsay, has committed to donating to local first responders for every team hit by the Flyers this season. Last season, the Flyers were ninth in the league with 2,015 team hits. So far this season, Hathaway has recorded 25 hits while the team has accumulated 232 hits.
“Lindsay and I are thrilled to launch Hits for Hath’s Heroes,” said Hathaway. “Through Hath’s Heroes we’ve met many selfless men and women who work tirelessly to serve our communities. I hope fans will join us in giving back to show our local heroes how much we appreciate them. Every hit counts!”
The couple encourages fans to participate by donating at Flyerscharities.com. All proceeds from both their donations and those from fans will directly support initiatives and programming for first responders in Philadelphia.
“The Flyers and Flyers Charities are proud and excited to support Garnet and Lindsay in their effort to give back to our local first responders,” stated Blair Listino, President of Flyers Charities. “We hope that providing an easy way for fans to join the cause by donating through the Flyers Charities’ website will help us raise as many proceeds as possible in support of something so important to Garnet and his family.”
Hathaway was inspired by his great-grandfather, also named Garnet Hathaway, who served as a firefighter in Winnipeg. He started Hath's Heroes in 2019 during his time with the Washington Capitals with a focus on supporting first responders beyond their line of work. After moving to Philadelphia last season, he hosted 20 first responders and their families at Flyers games.
