On November 16, 2024, Erik Johnson became the latest Philadelphia Flyers player to join the ranks of those who have achieved the Silver Stick milestone. This accomplishment is awarded to players who have played 1,000 regular season NHL games.
Bobby Clarke was the first Flyer to reach this milestone on October 23, 1982. Clarke went on to play a franchise record of 1,144 games throughout his career. Darryl Sittler followed with his achievement during his time with multiple teams including the Flyers. Craig MacTavish marked his milestone in an overtime game against New Jersey on December 19, 1995.
Luke Richardson's milestone came during a victory over the New York Islanders on February 1, 2001. Mark Recchi achieved this feat in a match against Pittsburgh on March 23, 2002. Jeremy Roenick joined this group in a game against Boston on November 16, 2002.
Eric Desjardins reached his Silver Stick status shortly after Roenick in a win at Atlanta on December 18, 2002. Eric Weinrich and Tony Amonte also reached their milestones while playing for the Flyers.
Alexei Zhitnik's brief tenure with Philadelphia included reaching his career game number of 1,000. Derian Hatcher accomplished this milestone on April 7, 2007. Kimmo Timonen logged his landmark game on March 18, 2013.
Nick Schultz reached this milestone during a home game against Boston on January 13, 2016. Claude Giroux played exactly his thousandth and final game as a Flyer in March of that year before moving to other teams.
An honorable mention goes to Bill Barber who played all of his NHL games with Philadelphia but retired prematurely due to knee injuries just short of reaching the Silver Stick mark.
Johnson now joins these notable names as part of Flyers history by achieving one of hockey's significant milestones.
