On Saturday, Kyle Schwarber will return to Bloomington, Indiana, where his baseball career took off. The Philadelphia Phillies player will visit Indiana University, his alma mater, as the celebrity guest picker on ESPN College GameDay. This appearance comes ahead of the day's featured game between Washington and the 13th-ranked undefeated Hoosiers.
Schwarber has a background in football as well, having been a standout linebacker during his high school years in Ohio. However, his most significant achievements have been in baseball. As a two-time first-team All-American at Indiana University, he maintained a .341 batting average and is among the top 10 in school history for home runs (40), hits (238), runs (182), and slugging percentage (.607). He played a key role in leading the Hoosiers to their last College World Series appearance in 2013.
In 2014, Schwarber was drafted by the Chicago Cubs as the No. 4 overall pick, making him the highest-drafted player from Indiana University's baseball program. Over his Major League Baseball career, Schwarber has hit 284 home runs, surpassing fellow Indiana alum Ted Kluszewski's record of 279 home runs.
