Philadelphia Union has confirmed a new contract agreement with defender Olivier Mbaizo. The 27-year-old player is now under contract until 2026, with options extending to 2027 and 2028.
In the 2024 season, Mbaizo participated in 21 matches for the Union, starting in 12 of them and contributing two assists. He ended the season with an impressive pass accuracy of 82.1%, completing successfully 340 out of 414 passes. On June 19, Mbaizo recorded his twelfth career assist in MLS and made his hundredth MLS appearance against FC Cincinnati, becoming the eighteenth player in club history to reach this milestone. During this year's Leagues Cup campaign, he played in all but one match, helping the team reach the semifinals.
Mbaizo joined Union in 2018 and initially developed with Bethlehem Steel, now known as Philadelphia Union II, before becoming a key part of Union's defense. Internationally, he has been capped fourteen times by Cameroon and was included in Cameroon's final squad for the FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar. He became the first active Union player to be part of a World Cup team.
