In a challenging matchup, the Philadelphia Flyers were defeated by the Washington Capitals with a score of 6-3 at Capital One Arena. This game marked the second in a home-and-home series, and despite a strong effort to close the gap, the Flyers fell short.
The Flyers found themselves trailing 4-0 in the second period but managed to narrow the deficit to one goal. However, they could not capitalize further and remain winless in their last six games.
Washington's Taylor Raddysh opened scoring early in the first period with his second goal of the season. The Capitals then extended their lead with three quick goals in the second period. Nic Dowd scored from deep after returning from a penalty box stint, followed by Connor McMichael's breakaway goal assisted by Pierre-Luc Dubois and Dylan McIlrath. McMichael added another shortly after.
Philadelphia responded with two goals before intermission. Travis Konecny scored on a power play, assisted by Matvei Michkov and Jamie Drysdale. Owen Tippett then netted another for Philly, helped by Egor Zamula and Tyson Foerster.
Michkov brought Philadelphia within one goal during a third-period power play, aided again by Tippett and Drysdale. Despite several opportunities to equalize, including attempts from Morgan Frost who had seven shots on goal, they couldn't find an equalizer.
Dubois sealed Washington's victory with an unassisted empty-netter following a Flyers' line change error. Alex Ovechkin added another empty-net goal after intercepting a turnover.
Flyers' goaltender Ivan Fedotov made 19 saves out of 23 shots but took the loss while Logan Thompson secured victory for Washington with 26 saves on 29 shots.
