The Philadelphia Eagles concluded the second night of the 2024 NFL Draft by selecting outside linebacker Jalyx Hunt with the 94th overall pick. The team had previously traded back twice to gain additional draft capital.
Hunt's path to the NFL is notable, beginning his college career at Cornell as a safety and track athlete before transferring to Houston Christian in 2022. At Houston Christian, he transitioned to defensive end, starting all 11 games in his first season and leading the team with impressive stats, including 11.5 tackles for loss and seven sacks. His performance earned him Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Year honors.
Executive Vice President/General Manager Howie Roseman expressed confidence in Hunt's potential: "He's got freaky tools in his body. He's an explosive guy... He's long. He's an extremely smart kid obviously coming from Cornell."
Director of Scouting Brandon Hunt also praised Jalyx Hunt's abilities: "Every step of this process, he just checked every box... We're so excited to see what this guy can do."
Hunt's college career statistics include playing 38 games with 22 starts, recording 162 tackles, 20.5 tackles for loss, and 13.5 sacks among other achievements.
The Eagles are optimistic about developing Hunt further, with plans to integrate him into their existing edge rush group under coaches Jeremiah Washburn and Vic Fangio.
