The University of Pennsylvania baseball team was defeated by Princeton with a score of 3-1 at Clarke Field on Sunday. This loss puts the Quakers in fourth place, while the Tigers move up to third in the Ivy League standings.
Davis Baker, Nick Spaventa, Connor Chavez, and Asa Wilson were responsible for all four hits by the Quakers. Wilson managed to secure Penn's only RBI during the game. Pitcher Josh Katz took the loss after allowing three runs (two earned) over 2.1 innings. Thomas Shurtleff delivered a strong performance with 4.2 shutout innings and three strikeouts.
In the third inning, Princeton took control with an RBI single followed by two more runs from an RBI double and a fielder's choice due to a fielding error. Despite some defensive plays and pitching efforts from Shurtleff, Penn struggled offensively throughout most of the game.
Penn managed to load the bases in the seventh inning without any hits but could only bring one run home through Wilson's RBI bloop single. The Quakers' defense held Princeton back with multiple double plays but couldn't overcome their offensive struggles.
The game concluded with Princeton maintaining their lead as Penn failed to rally in the ninth inning. Next weekend, Penn will face Harvard after a short break.
