PHILADELPHIA – Senior third baseman Wyatt Henseler of the University of Pennsylvania baseball team has been named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Player of the Year. This accolade adds to his impressive list of achievements following a notable final season with the Quakers.
Henseler was also selected for the All-ECAC Team, marking him as the first honoree from Penn since Eduardo Malinowski in 2018. Joining him on this year's list are fellow Ivy League players Griffin Palfrey from Columbia and Callan Fang from Harvard.
Eligibility for All-ECAC consideration requires student-athletes to have been named first-team all-conference in their primary playing conference. Major ECAC award nominees must have received a corresponding award in their conference.
For the 2024 season, Henseler was unanimously named Ivy League Player of the Year and was a first-team All-Ivy selection. He played a crucial role as co-captain, leading his team to win their second consecutive Ivy League Tournament title and securing an NCAA Regional appearance. Henseler's performance in the tournament earned him the Most Outstanding Player title after he hit .375 with three home runs and 10 RBIs over five games.
Over 49 games, Henseler led his teammates in several categories: batting average (.360), runs (64), hits (72), home runs (22), RBIs (56), total bases (151), slugging percentage (.755), hit-by-pitches (14), and on-base percentage (.465). In Ivy League play, he topped the conference charts in batting (.438), slugging (.913), OBP (.566), OPS (1.479), runs (31), and home runs (10).
Concluding an outstanding career at Penn, Henseler holds program records for career hits (232), runs (64), doubles (50), total bases (452), home runs (54), and RBIs (189). Additionally, he set Ivy records for homers, RBIs, and total bases. His single-season records include at bats, hits, home runs, runs, total bases, and RBIs achieved over various seasons.
The Quakers faced challenges during their second consecutive NCAA regional appearance in Charlottesville. They lost to Virginia 4-2 before being eliminated by St. John's with a score of 10-9 after 12 innings. The team's overall record for the 2024 campaign ended at 24-25 with an Ivy play record of 11-10.
