The University of Pennsylvania baseball team split a doubleheader against Princeton at Clarke Field on Saturday. After losing the first game 3-2 in a dramatic finish, Penn rebounded with a 12-7 victory in the second game.
Pitchers Cole Zaffiro and Ryan Dromboski led Penn's efforts on the mound, combining for 19 strikeouts across both games. Zaffiro delivered 10 strikeouts over 6.2 innings in Game 1, while Dromboski secured his first win of the season with nine strikeouts in six innings during Game 2.
The Quakers and Tigers are now tied for third place in the Ivy League standings, each holding a record of 7-7 within the conference.
Wyatt Henseler achieved a milestone by setting Penn's career hits record. In Game 1, he went 2-for-4, surpassing Dan Williams' previous record of 204 hits to reach a total of 205.
Calvin Brown had an impressive performance in Game 2, hitting .600 with his first career home run and contributing two RBIs. Both Henseler and Carson Ozmer recorded four hits each during the doubleheader.
In Game 1, Penn took an early lead with Jarrett Pokrovsky's leadoff home run but eventually fell to Princeton after an error allowed the Tigers to score the winning run in the ninth inning.
Game 2 saw Penn taking control early with a series of runs driven by strategic plays and errors from Princeton. Brown's home run extended their lead significantly. Despite Princeton's late efforts to close the gap, including Nick DiPietrantonio's two-run homer in the ninth inning, Penn maintained their advantage to secure the win.
Penn will face Princeton again on Sunday as they aim for a series victory.
