The University of Pennsylvania baseball team is set to host Dartmouth in a three-game series at Tommy Lasorda Field at Meiklejohn Stadium as they aim for a spot in the Ivy League Tournament. The series kicks off on Friday with a single game, followed by a doubleheader on Saturday.
As the regular season concludes, seven teams are competing for three available spots in the Ivy League Tournament. Columbia has already secured the regular-season championship and top seed after sweeping Cornell last weekend.
For Penn, there are four scenarios where they can clinch a tournament spot: winning all three games against Dartmouth combined with various outcomes from Cornell and Princeton's games. If successful, Penn will defend its tournament crown in New York City and vie for another NCAA regional appearance.
Senior player Wyatt Henseler continues to break records with career highs in several categories, including home runs and RBIs. He needs just one more double to claim the program's all-time record outright and is close to setting a new Ivy League single-season home run record.
Penn has shown strong form recently, winning four of their last six games. They have also performed well at home this season despite some recent losses.
Saturday's doubleheader will include a pre-game ceremony honoring nine senior players: Calvin Brown, Danny Heintz, Wyatt Henseler, Justin Neskie, Carson Ozmer, Drew Rogers, Edward Sarti, Eli Trop, and Cole Zaffiro.
The Quakers' offense has been led by Henseler with impressive statistics across multiple categories. Pitching remains solid with Cole Zaffiro leading strikeouts and innings pitched while relievers like Carson Ozmer continue to be reliable options.
Dartmouth faces challenges as they approach these final games of the season. They have lost their last six matches and eight out of nine overall. Despite these setbacks, players like Elliot Krewson have stood out offensively for the Big Green.
Historically, Penn holds a narrow lead over Dartmouth in their matchups dating back to 1891. The Quakers have won four consecutive meetings against them since 2018.
All games this weekend will be streamed live on ESPN+ with additional coverage provided online through various platforms associated with Penn Athletics.
