The University of Pennsylvania baseball team concluded its season with a narrow 10-9 loss to St. John's in a 12-inning game on Saturday at Davenport Field, Disharoon Park. This defeat marked the end of Penn's participation in the NCAA Regional.

Penn's team, which finished the season with a record of 24-25, made a significant effort to win by scoring seven runs in the seventh inning. However, St. John's responded with two runs in both the ninth and twelfth innings, securing their advancement to Sunday's round of the Charlottesville Regional.

"This was the Quakers' fourth extra innings matchup of the season and the longest since the 11-inning battle with Brown back in March."

Senior Wyatt Henseler achieved a milestone by tying his own single-season hits record with his 72nd hit this year. Davis Baker and Carson Ozmer were key players for Penn, each going 4-for-6 at bat. Catcher Asa Wilson contributed three RBIs to support Penn's offensive efforts.

Five pitchers took turns on the mound for Penn: Ryan Dromboski, Danny Heintz, Ozmer, Eli Trop, and Will Tobin. Senior Ozmer led with four strikeouts over 3 2/3 innings. Tobin ended up taking the loss after allowing one run off a hit in his 1 2/3 innings pitched.

In terms of gameplay dynamics, both teams had early opportunities but faced challenges converting them into runs. St. John's took an initial lead that was later countered by Penn’s aggressive seventh inning performance where they briefly led 9-6.

St. John's kept pressure on Penn throughout the game and managed to tie it up at nine apiece in regulation time thanks to home runs from Jackson Tucker and others. The match extended into extra innings without either side scoring until St. John’s secured victory with a decisive run in their half of the twelfth inning.
