The University of Pennsylvania baseball team is set to compete in the 2024 NCAA Baseball Championship, marking its second consecutive appearance in a regional tournament. The Quakers will travel to Charlottesville, Virginia, where they will face off against the 12th-seeded Virginia team on Friday at noon. This matchup is part of a four-team, double-elimination format similar to the Ivy League Tournament.
In addition to Penn's game against Virginia, Mississippi State and St. John's will play later that evening at 7 p.m. Both games will be available for streaming on ESPN+. The regional schedule continues through the weekend with potential games scheduled up until Monday if necessary.
Each of the 16 NCAA Regional winners will advance to one of eight Super Regionals held from June 9 through June 12. The winner from each Super Regional will then move on to compete in the College World Series in Omaha from June 15-26. The Charlottesville regional victor is set to face off against the winner from Arkansas' regional, who holds an overall No. 5 seed.
Penn's recent performance has been noteworthy as they return to an NCAA Regional for the first time since their back-to-back appearances between 1988 and 1990. As a four seed in the Ivy League Tournament, Penn defeated Columbia but fell to Cornell before rallying back with three consecutive wins, including two against Cornell, securing their title.
Last year, Penn made headlines by defeating Auburn and Samford before ultimately losing twice to Southern Miss in the Regional Final. Their initial victories marked them as the first Ivy League team since 1999 to win their first two games at a regional.
Tickets for all sessions are currently available for purchase online, with single-session tickets becoming available later this week through Virginia's ticket office.
