The University of Pennsylvania baseball team faced a setback in their final game against Harvard, losing 14-4. Despite the loss, senior third baseman Wyatt Henseler made headlines by setting a new single-season home run record for Penn with his 19th homer of the year.
The Quakers (17-21, 9-9 Ivy) had secured the series win with two victories on Saturday but were unable to complete the sweep against the Crimson (12-24, 8-10 Ivy) on Sunday.
Wyatt Henseler stood out among his teammates with a notable performance. He went 2-for-4 at bat and has now recorded 19 multi-hit games this season. His reached-base streak has extended to 23 consecutive games. Henseler's career home run tally reached 51 following this game.
In addition to Henseler, Carson Ozmer and Qwynn Ahearn also contributed with two hits each during the game. Starter Josh Katz took the loss after giving up four runs on six hits in just over an inning of play. Danny Heintz delivered a solid performance in relief, pitching two scoreless innings and striking out four.
The game's momentum shifted early as Harvard scored first in their half of the opening inning. Penn responded quickly in the second inning when Jarrett Pokrovsky's double brought home Carson Ozmer to tie it at one apiece. However, Harvard regained control with a strong second inning that included an inside-the-park home run.
Penn attempted a comeback with solo homers from Henseler and Ryan Taylor in the fifth inning, narrowing Harvard's lead to 5-3. Qwynn Ahearn added another homer for Penn in the sixth inning, bringing them within one run at 5-4. Nevertheless, Harvard extended their lead significantly over subsequent innings to secure their victory.
Looking ahead, Penn will conclude non-conference play on Tuesday against Delaware State at 3 p.m., with live streaming available on NEC Front Row.
