The University of Pennsylvania baseball team is set to play its final non-conference game of the season against Delaware State. The match will take place in Dover at 3 p.m. on Tuesday. The Quakers are coming off a crucial series victory against Harvard, positioning themselves well for an Ivy League Tournament berth with one series remaining.
Penn's current record stands at 17-21 overall and 9-9 in the Ivy League, while Delaware State holds a 14-21 overall record and a 13-11 standing in the NEC.
Wyatt Henseler continues to make headlines by breaking records this season. On Sunday, he hit his 19th home run of the year, setting Penn's single-season record for homers for the third consecutive year after achieving similar feats with 18 homers in 2023 and 14 in 2022. He is now close to surpassing Princeton's Kyle Vinci’s Ivy League single-season home run record of 21 set last year.
Henseler leads Penn with a batting average of .361, a slugging percentage of .823, and an OPS of 1.299. Alongside him, Carson Ozmer (.338) and Nick Spaventa (.311) also boast averages above .300 this season.
On the pitching front, starters Cole Zaffiro (4-3, ERA: 4.28) and Ryan Dromboski (2-5, ERA: 8.54) have shown strong performances recently. In relief roles, Ozmer (1-1), Thomas Shurtleff (1-0), and Eli Trop (3-2) have contributed significantly with ERAs below or around three.
Delaware State enters Tuesday's game following four consecutive losses after a seven-game winning streak. Jaryn Sample (.354) and Evan Bouldin (.353) lead their offense with notable performances from Chris Amparo in home runs (11) and RBIs (44). Kieran Etwaru has excelled as a starter with a perfect record of five wins without any losses across nine starts this year.
The matchup between Penn and Delaware State dates back only to recent years since it started in 2014 when Penn claimed victories over DSU on three occasions including two wins away from home during that inaugural year.
